Municipal Court Warrants in Matagorda County
Bay City and Palacios operate separate municipal courts for city-code, traffic, and other Class C matters. Each city court handles its own citation and warrant questions. A city capias may not appear in a county sheriff search, and no public countywide warrant roster was located.
The court name on the paper controls. A county deputy or state trooper may write a ticket inside a city and send it to a JP rather than municipal court. City and county jurisdiction should not be guessed from the address where an event occurred.
Bay City Municipal Warrant Path
Bay City Municipal Court is at 1824 6th Street, phone 979-245-0035. It lists weekday hours, daily magistrate hearings, and responsibility for city-code, traffic, and Class C matters. Its court page is the official source for current office details.
The city tells citation recipients to appear within 12 days. If that period has passed, ask whether the case is still at citation stage or has moved to a capias, show-cause, compliance, or other docket. The city’s online-services landing page is not a public warrant-status form.
Use the Bay City court contact page to verify the office’s published details.
Bay City’s court page identifies its office and local court role. Confirm a case-specific status with the clerk.
The city’s Municipal Court forms page lists the documents used for continuances, time-served credit, and compliance requests.
A form is a filing route; the judge or clerk confirms what action is still required.
Which Matagorda County Cities Have Municipal Courts
Only Bay City and Palacios were established in the research as incorporated cities with their own municipal court and police department. Other named communities use county or JP routes unless the citation names a different court.
| City | Court | What It Handles |
|---|---|---|
| Bay City | Bay City Municipal Court | City code, traffic, Class C, and magistrate matters; 979-245-0035 |

Matagorda County JP and City Courts
County JPs and municipal courts both handle some fine-only and traffic matters, but they are not one system. JP3 is in Palacios at 405 Commerce Street, phone 361-972-5313; Palacios Municipal Court is at 313 Henderson, phone 361-972-2583. Bay City’s city court is separate from JP1 and JP2, even though those offices also sit in Bay City.
A city citation should go to its Municipal Court. A ticket from the Sheriff’s Office or Texas Highway Patrol may be assigned to the precinct printed on the notice. If the court name is unclear, call the clerk before paying.
How to Check a Municipal Court Warrant
No public Bay City or Palacios warrant-search form was located. Use the court phone and official docket or resolution pages as leads, then ask the clerk for the current case status. Bay City posts docket labels and citation options. Palacios posts plea and payment guidance, while its ticket and show-cause pages were inaccessible during research.
- Read the city and court named on the citation, then note the case number and date.
- Check the official city court page for contact, docket, plea, or payment instructions.
- Call Bay City Municipal Court at 979-245-0035 or Palacios Municipal Court at 361-972-2583.
- Ask whether a capias or missed-date order exists and what the judge requires next.
Palacios Court Audit Was Historical
Palacios’s 2022 Police Department report described an audit that found invalid, unlawful, or outdated warrants and led to dismissals. That account is a dated record-management lesson, not a current warrant list and not evidence that any present case is invalid. Confirm a current status with Palacios Municipal Court.
The same source set distinguishes city court work from JP3 filings. Palacios Municipal Court handles city matters; JP3 is a separate county office and may receive certain higher-level filings. Police dispatch at 361-972-3112 is not the municipal clerk’s case-status line.
Palacios explains city pleas on its official court page.
The current city court landing page is the office route. The audit remains historical context only.
What a Municipal Court Warrant Shows
No accessible city warrant entry established a shared Bay City and Palacios field layout or number format. Use these labels as questions for the correct clerk. A citation, capias, docket heading, and payment receipt are separate records.
| Cause / citation number | Ask for the city court’s identifier; no shared number format was verified. |
|---|---|
| Charge / matter | City ordinance, traffic, or Class C case; the clerk can identify the filed issue. |
| Issuing court | Bay City Municipal Court or Palacios Municipal Court. |
| Amount / condition | Confirm any fine, bond, payment plan, service, or appearance requirement. |
| Status / date | Ask whether the matter is open, served, recalled, or cleared and when. |
City Court Fees and Options Vary
Bay City publishes payment plans, community service, an indigency option, compliance dismissal, defensive driving when available, and jail credit. Palacios publishes plea choices and payment by mail, in person, or online. Neither city’s instructions make a payment an automatic recall order for every missed-date case.
Ask whether the judge must approve a plan, whether a personal appearance is required, and when the record will show compliance. Do not infer the current amount from the original fine or a payment portal.
Bay City citation-resolution options and Palacios plea instructions describe different city procedures.Resolving a Municipal Court Warrant
Contact the city court named on the case before paying. Ask whether the citation is still open, whether a capias or compliance setting has been added, and whether a payment, plea, appearance, motion, or court order will clear the current issue. The court can explain eligibility and required forms.
- Confirm the court, citation number, current process, and next required date.
- Ask about plea, payment plan, service, indigency, contest, or reset options.
- Use the official method and complete any judge or clerk step that follows.
- Keep the receipt or signed order and ask when any separate report is updated.
Warning: A city payment page does not confirm that a capias is recalled; call the clerk and ask for the required court action.
Bay City Campaign Was Not a Roster
Bay City’s FY2025 budget describes Municipal Court warrant processing and a Warrant Officer/Bailiff function. The proposed FY2026 budget says the 2025 Warrant Resolution Campaign cleared 78 Class C warrants and that another campaign was planned. It does not supply current names, eligibility, dates, or a live warrant count.
Call the court to ask about any current resolution offer. The budget figure describes a completed city program and should not be treated as the status of a particular case. Palacios has its own court process and does not share Bay City’s campaign.
